THE SIMPLE WILD by K.A. Tucker

As far as romances go, THE SIMPLE WILD by K.A. Tucker checked all the boxes for me. It had well-developed and complex characters (even the minor characters were well-thought out and necessary to this story), a heart-wrenching plot, realistic banter and a slow-burn romance. ⠀

Despite touching on fairly common themes—strained father-daughter relationship, second chances, enemies-to-lovers romance, city girl taken out of her element—nothing about this story felt cliché. It reminded me of another book I read recently that touched on several of the same themes, and all I kept thinking to myself was, “yes. THIS is how that’s done.” ⠀

I’m fairly new to this genre, and I’ve hit some bumps in the road as I’ve tried to figure out which romance/love stories I enjoy most. I finally realized that I don’t like romances that start too quickly or get too steamy or those where the romance takes front and center stage with little room for other aspects to the plot. In contrast to those elements, THE SIMPLE WILD was all that I could imagine for a book in this genre. I laughed at the witty banter, I cried as the plot unfolded, I was frustrated at some of the characters’ decisions, and then grew to understand them, and most of all, I had a visible smile on my face from cover-to-cover. ⠀

10/10 recommend for people new to this genre.⠀

CW: strained parent-child relationships, abandonment, terminal illness
