THE HOUSE IN THE CERULEAN SEA by T.J. Klune
THE HOUSE IN THE CERULEAN SEA by TJ Klune
This was the most delightful, magical novel I’ve ever read in my adult life. There are very few books I would dare call perfect, but THE HOUSE IN THE CERULEAN SEA is just about there. At face value, this is a story about a caseworker who visits an orphanage filled with magical youth. As it’s core, it is so much more: ⠀
⠀
It is a story about finding joy in the most unexpected places. ⠀
⠀
It is about choosing to believe in good in the face of evil.⠀
⠀
It is about the voices of a few coming together in a powerful roar. ⠀
⠀
And it is about seeing the brightest, cerulean blue in an otherwise bland world. ⠀
⠀
This novel isn’t going to sweep you off your feet with intellectual prowess or mesmerizing prose. That’s not its purpose. It is quiet and it is lovely, and it will make you feel like you belong in a world where those who don’t belong congregate. This is a story for anyone who has ever felt out of place or like a piece of their heart is missing. I believe you’ll find that missing piece here, in a house that overlooks the sea. ⠀
⠀
Whether it was making me laugh or cry, the smile plastered across my face did not falter for all 400 pages. I can’t guarantee you’ll love this book as much as I did. At times, it felt like this story was written just for me. Other times, it felt universal in its message. If nothing else, it is a timely novel that I encourage you all to read. It may not hold the same magic for you as it did me, but I sure as heck hope it does.
